Many people often ask us, ‘How can I get Physical Therapy?’ This is a great question and we think it is important for the community to know what needs to be done in order to receive the great benefits of Physical Therapy.

In Texas, Physical Therapists have a limited form of direct access. Direct access refers to being a direct entry point into the healthcare system. A direct entry point into the healthcare system is someone that any person can simply walk in and see.

Physical therapists in Texas can evaluate patients without a referral but they need a referral from a doctor or other referral source in order to begin treatment. Most patients come to us after seeing their doctor, physician assistant, advanced nurse practitioner, podiatrist, or dentist.

We are also asked the question, ‘Can I go back to Physical Therapy for a problem I have already had therapy for?’ This is a great question as well.

Patients who have been referred to physical therapy may return to physical therapy for the same problem, using the same referral, within one year of the date written on the referral. However, the therapist who you will be returning to see must have been licensed for at least one year.

Now that you know how you can get physical therapy, you can go out and get it. If you are having pain, ask your doctor if Physical Therapy is right for you. If you know somebody who is in pain, ask if they have heard of or tried Physical Therapy. If you are in the San Antonio area, call or visit us at Momentum Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab and we will get you the help you need.
