Learn About Dry Needling from Momentum Physical Therapy
Dry needling, sometimes known as trigger point dry needling, is a safe, effective, and efficient treatment technique available in many Momentum Physical Therapy clinics.
Dry needling treatment is NOT acupuncture. Modern dry needling is based on Western neuroanatomy and modern scientific study of the muscles and nervous system. This modality can only be done by trained physical therapy clinicians.
Don’t let the name intimidate you, dry needling is largely painless, minimally invasive and one of the most effective techniques used by physical therapists to relieve pain in patients with certain musculoskeletal needs.
How Does a Physical Therapist Use Dry Needling?
Physical therapists use dry needling to release painful hyper-irritable spots within a band of skeletal muscle, called a trigger point.. By inserting a needle into the dysfunctional tissue, it often leads to contraction of the muscle which then stimulates a release.
This release leads to a reduction of pain, improvements in flexibility and a restoration of normalized movement when combined with corrective exercises.
What Physical Problems Can Be Treated?
