BEING A LIFETIME LEARNER

I believe it is my responsibility to continue my education on a daily basis, in order to provide the best care possible for every patient. Through individual study, formal continuing-education courses, in-services and direct observation with other therapists, I can take advantage of the opportunity to learn something every day. Being a lifetime learner is a challenge I accepted when I graduated from physical therapy school, and I believe it will be of benefit to my patients, coworkers and my profession.

HOW I GOT MY START

Like many healthcare professionals, I was introduced to my profession as a patient. I injured my shoulder playing college baseball and had to spend many hours with therapists, athletic trainers and physicians. I was lucky enough to work with a really good team, and I was able to have a very successful senior year because of my rehab. I was amazed at the knowledge and expertise of this rehab team, and I quickly realized that it was what I wanted to do. I often remind myself what it was like to be a patient…scared, uncertain and vulnerable. This helps me stay focused to achieve the quickest and most successful outcomes possible.

SERVING MY COMMUNITY

I graduated from physical therapy school and moved from Kansas City, MO to San Antonio in 2000. At the time, it was only supposed to be a temporary stop, but from the moment I moved here, I noticed a genuine warmth and sense of community from the people I met. My plans for a temporary stop have turned into over a decade of serving the people of this community. I have volunteered and supported many national and local organizations that serve patients with MS, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, arthritis and spina bifida. This community has given me the opportunity to thrive and grow as a person and as a therapist. I plan on serving my community for many years to come.
