FAMILY OF HELPERS
From a young age, I knew that I wanted to go into a profession that helped people. I am one of four siblings that ended up in healthcare. The 5th one is an educator – which I often think is more challenging than the medical field. I originally had my eye on optometry; however, that quickly changed after observation hours. I ended up falling in love with the mechanics of the body, and anatomy as a whole. After shadowing more physical therapists, and participating in an internship through my undergrad, I decided that physical therapy was the route for me.
FROM ILLINOIS TO TEXAS
Right after physical therapy school and passing boards, I began working as a traveling therapist. I was able to see parts of the country that I had never seen before. After two years I ended up in San Antonio, TX. San Antonio, let alone Texas, was not on my list of possible places to live. Being from the Midwest, it was an adjustment to how long the heat sticks around, as well as tough during wintertime, missing the snow and cold. However, San Antonio has quickly become my second home that has provided me with plenty of room for growth.
My family means everything to me. My sisters are my biggest role models that continue to make me strive for excellence. With our parents not being college graduates, my siblings and me having advanced degrees is not an easy achievement. Furthermore, they have continued to inspire to me continue with my education and currently working towards my Fellowship in Orthopedic Manual Therapy. I treat my patients as I do my own family, and how I hope my family members’ medical team would take care of them.
