INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL THERAPY
My first experience with the field of physical therapy was in high school. At the time, a family friend shattered her elbow and I had the opportunity to take her to physical therapy. Accompanying her to those appointments allowed me a glimpse into the world of rehabilitation, and I knew it was the profession for me. Soon after, I volunteered to gain more knowledge about the physical therapy profession, and then started working in a physical therapy clinic while I attended UT-Austin (THE University).
I attended UTHSCSA and graduated in 1990 with my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy (PT). Within my first few years, I realized that physical therapists typically become supervisors or directors in the clinics, so I decided to pursue by Master’s degree. In 1996, I earned my MBA with specialization in healthcare management. My MBA gave me the insight needed to oversee clinics and be an effective leader among my peers.
GROWING IN THE PROFESSION
I have been blessed in my professional opportunities throughout my career. I am currently a Clinical Director in the Momentum family, and this allows me the opportunity to work with a great group of professionals who all share my desire to continue learning and finding new and better ways to serve our patients daily. We really have a culture that encourages us to learn new and effective ways to assist our patients on their roads to recovery, as well as share/teach these techniques to other staff members. I have also assisted in the development of a manual therapy training program which has become a nationally recognized fellowship, The Manual Therapy Institute, from which many of our therapists have graduated. I enjoy developing programs and, at the same time, working with patients so that they get healthy for life.
I love being able to teach my patients exercise techniques and activities that can help them become more functional. My hands-on skills help to improve my patients’ movements and decrease their discomfort. I love working with Momentum. Momentum’s patient-centric focus meshes well with my passion and strengths to help you return to the quality of life that you deserve. I have lived in Texas since 1979. I have 3 children- 2 boys and 1 girl. I enjoy swimming and tennis. And, of course, I love my Spurs! Go Spurs Go!
